La edición especial de Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring se
llevó 15 premios DVD Awards en una ceremonia presentada por Leonard
Maltin en la 6th Annual DVD Awards gala en el hotel Hilton de
Universal City. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets recibió los
premios Best Standard Release y Viewer's Choice, de acuerdo a una
votación realizada por mas de 40,000 fans de DVD llevada a cabo vía
Internet.
En un evento separado se llevó a cabo en la misma sede los 1st Annual
Entertainment Packaging Awards (conocidos como los Alex Awards en honor a
Alex Steinweiss, padre de las cubiertas de albums) donde se entregaron premios
en 14 categorías. Steinweiss recibió el Lifetime Achievement Award de
manos del tres veces ganador del Grammy Kevin Reagan.
Los DVD Awards son realizados de manera simultanea a la DVD
Conference and Showcase y son producidos por International Recording
Media Association (IRMA) y United Media Entertainment (UEM). Su
objetivo es premiar los logros técnicos y artísticos en la creación de DVDs
desde el diseño de los menús hasta el uso de características especiales, con
premios en 15 categorías.
